The services we offer

To achieve our mission, we offer services in five main programmatic areas.

  • Prevention:  CPC focuses Prevention of HIV/AIDS, TB, and STIs through Key Population, Migrant Health, Vhutshilo, Counselling and Testing (on-site in community clinics and through mobile testing facilities), and prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT). CPC’s Youth Programs teach life skills to in and out of school youth of up to the age of 25 to prevent STI, TB, HIV and AIDS and Teenage Pregnancy. The focus of the prevention program is to create an enabling environment for behavioral change, using innovative educational presentations to reduce the transmission of STIs and HIV, and to promote safer sexual practices.
  • Positive Living:  The thrust of the programme is to mitigate the impact of HIV and AIDS by elevating the quality of care and support for HIV+ people, supporting treatment compliance, enhancing coping capacities and creating an environment of acceptance. The program covers many needed care services including Home Based Care services to clients and supporting TB Directly Observed Treatment Short-Course (DOTS) for TB and/or ARV treatments. CPC trains facilitators in I-ACT, an acclaimed structured program designed to provide support to newly-diagnosed individuals through support groups.  CPC also facilitates over 130 support groups for HIV+ people.
  • Protection and Intervention:  Identifying children who are orphaned and vulnerable, and organizing needed care, support, services and referrals is a cornerstone of CPC’s protection and intervention services. The driving force behind the programme is to help create a safe, enriching environment for children to grow into healthy and productive members of their communities. Through the establishment of Children’s Resource Centres and initiating Community Child Care Forums, the programme provides early childhood development services, food, assistance with documentation and grants, HIV prevention education, protection from abuse, psycho-social support, and economic strengthening strategies.
  • Human Rights:  The primary goal of the program is to create a more safe and supportive community where gender-based violence ceases to be a problem.  Activities that CPC performs include work in border communities with employers and others to reduce child and female trafficking, education about changing gender roles using male peer educators, education about gender-based violence and how to prevent it, specific programs to reduce stigma and xenophobic attacks, and educating children and migrant workers about their rights under South African law.
  • Economic Empowerment:  CPC mobilizes communities to participate in a cross-cutting program that empowers communities to identify their problems and then organize the community to solve them. CPC’s role is to facilitate the discussion, assist the communities to form an organizing structure, train community members to perform specific services, and provide ongoing reporting and technical assistance for further development of community structures.  Specific trainings to stabilize and enhance the community include perma-gardening, financial and budgeting workshops, and training on income generating activities such as bead making, crop production (agriculture), polish making, poultry raising, juice making and revolving credit.
  • Capacity Building: The driving force behind the program is to help strengthen the skills and knowledge of the NPO’s in management and organizational development. CPC provides skills and capacity development to all its partners and other service providers.
