The ‘Centre for Positive Care’ is a developmental organisation which was started by an American, Harold Lemke. He came to the area in the late 1980’s from China as an interpreter with Chinese investors that were interested in establishing factories in Venda. In 1987 he and his friends set up an organisation that would focus on HIV and AIDS, inspired by the death of a close friend from AIDS. Through this experience Harold found that there was very little information about AIDS for the people in Venda. Since the early 1990’s CPC has been led by a team of highly committed young people from the Vhembe District in Limpopo, who took the organisation further after the founder, left South Africa.
